Renewal of Professional Memberships in 2008

Just renew my professional membership for ACSM and NSCA. That means I have to pay money again.

ACSM credentials are recognized as the Gold Standard throughout the United States and around the world. By obtaining an ACSM certification, your employer knows that you have passed the most rigorous and up-to-date health/fitness and clinical certification(s) that exist. There are many benefits to being ACSM certified/registered.
Employers prefer ACSM certified/registered employees because this ensures a higher standard of knowledge and better and safer service to clients.
An ACSM credentialed individual is capable of working with both apparently healthy clients and clients with chronic diseases and disabilities.
ACSM credentials offer a quality of care that today's society demands.

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCSs) are professionals who apply scientific knowledge to train athletes for the primary goal of improving athletic performance. They conduct sport-specific testing sessions, design and implement safe and effective strength training and conditioning programs and provide guidance regarding nutrition and injury prevention. Recognizing that their area of expertise is separate and distinct, CSCSs consult with and refer athletes to other professionals when appropriate.
History
The Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) program was created in 1985 to identify individuals who possess the knowledge and skills to design and implement safe and effective strength and conditioning programs for athletes in a team setting. The credentialing program encourages a higher level of competence among practitioners and raises the quality of strength training and conditioning programs provided by those who are CSCS certified.
Today, more than 21,000 professionals from a variety of academic and professional backgrounds hold this prestigious credential. This diverse group includes strength coaches, athletic trainers, physical therapists, personal trainers, physicians, chiropractors, researchers and educators. The CSCS is the only strength training and conditioning certification to be nationally accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and has been nationally accredited since 1993.

Reviewer for the Journal of Sports Sciences

I was appointed as a Journal Reviewer for the Journal of Sports Sciences starting from March 2008. I will be reviewing some articles in the Physiology Section and to suggest if the journal should accept or reject those articles.

This is a very top journal in sport science. Ranking in 2006 Thomson ISI Journal Citation Reports: 13/73 (Sport Sciences); Impact Factor 1.797.

The Journal of Sports Sciences publishes articles of a high standard on various aspects of the sports sciences covering a number of disciplinary bases, including anatomy, biochemistry, biomechanics, psychology, sociology, as well as ergonomics, kinanthropometry and other interdisciplinary perspectives. In addition to reports of research, review articles and book reviews are published. The emphasis of the Journal is on the human sciences, broadly defined, applied to sport and exercise. Besides experimental work in human responses to exercise, the subjects covered will include technologies such as the design of sports equipment and playing facilities, research in training, selection, performance prediction or modification, and stress reduction or manifestation. Manuscripts dealing with original investigations of exercise, validation of technological innovations in sport or comprehensive reviews of topics relevant to the scientific study of sport will be considered for publication.
The Journal presents research findings in the growing area of exercise and sports sciences to an international audience. The readership for this journal is varied and ranges from academic research workers to professionals in recreation, sports coaching and training.

Approaching 28-yr-old

The day after tomorrow will be my 28th birthday. I have been thinking about something recently.... things about my life, my work, my study...etc

First, i started to realize i am a very lucky one. I have so many mentors up to now:

  • ZZJ when i was studying Bachelor degree, he told me what is important in the university life and how to think independently.

  • Jim Luk when i was studying Master degree, he showed me the way to work hard and achieve the goal of one self.

  • Prof Hong who is my master degree supervisor, though he didn't teach me a lot in terms of knowledge, he showed me what is the quality to being a scholar. He gave me the freedom to try and fail, this is very important training for my future works especially when i face some difficulties. That was a very good training and learning in the last 3 yrs i stayed in Chinese University.

  • Dr Patrick Lau who is my former university teacher, and i have never think about he will become my mentor. He helped me and inspired me a lot in the research road. If you work with him then you will know how determine he is for research.

  • Dr Karim Chamari who i think i met him by luck, or may be by God. He lives in Tunisia and we started our very first conversation through email, talking about some research methodologies. And then 2 years later i went there to meet him and we had very great discussion about soccer, and about life, which both influence me a lot.

At the same time i am thinking about my work, am I doing good enough? What am i working for? Money? or interest? I didnt have the answer until tonight i watched a TV program, and Bill Gates talked about his work. He said "don't work for money becoz that is not the only way to value your work. You should work for your interest and your heart and feel happy and satisfy. Everyone make mistakes, and you have to learn from it and then forget those mistakes and then life will goes on." OK i finally have some ideas. I love my job in HKSI, i love my athletes (most of them i think), i love to work with the colleagues. That's why i feel i am lucky, again. How many people over the world got the chance to do something everyday that they are interested, and can work with those most talented athletes, and at the same time you receive money from that. Karim always say that it is very important to think good about your life. I agree now.

Recently i also think about my girlfriend and i may be the first time think that she should has a better environment and living. These added together and motivate me to step forward. I should spend more time with her and she deserved to have this.

I must say that most of my energy come from my athletes, and thats why i have to write the following in Chinese so that they can read it easily.
